10 Best Building Product Stocks To Watch Right Now

10 Best Building Product Stocks To Watch Right Now: Kite Pharma Inc (KITE)

Kite Pharma, Inc., incorporated on June 1, 2009, is a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company focused on the development and commercialization of cancer immunotherapy products designed to harness the power of a patient's own immune system to eradicate cancer cells. The Company does this using its engineered autologous cell therapy (eACT). eACT involves the genetic engineering of T cells to express either chimeric antigen receptors (CARs, or T cell receptors, or TCRs). These modified T cells are designed to recognize and destroy cancer cells. The Company funds multiple Phase I-2a clinical trials with CAR- and TCR-based therapies that are being conducted by its collaborator, the Surgery Branch of the National Cancer Institute (NCI). The Company plans to conduct a Phase I-2 clinical trial for its lead product candidate KTE-C19, a CAR-based therapy, in patients with relapsed/refractory diffuse large B cell lymphoma (DLBCL).

eACT involves harvesting T cells from the patient's blood; genetically engineering T cells to express cancer-specific receptors; increasing the number of engineered T cells and infusing the functional cancer-specific T cells back into the patient. Using eACT technology, T cells can be genetically modified to express one of two classes of cancer-specific receptors: CARs or TCRs. CARs can recognize native cancer antigens that are part of an intact protein presented on the cancer cell surface. TCRs broaden the therapeutic approach by recognizing fragments on the cancer cell surface derived from intracellular proteins. By combining both CAR and TCR approaches, it has the potential to generate a portfolio of products that can target both solid and hematological tumors. It has a Cooperative Research and Development Agreement (CRADA), through which it is funding the research and development o! f eACT-based product candidates utilizing CARs and TCRs for the treatment of advanced solid and hematological malignancies.

The Company's lead product candidate, KTE-C19, ! is an anti-CD19 CAR T cell therapy. CD19 is a protein expressed on the cell surface of B cell lymphomas and leukemias. The Company is an ongoing NCI Phase I-2a clinical trial utilizing anti-CD19 CAR T cell therapy that is designed to establish a dose level and appropriate conditioning regimen, as well as to assess overall safety, in patients with B cell lymphomas and leukemias that had been heavily pretreated and were relapsed/refractory (unresponsive) to chemotherapy. KTE-C19 will use the identical anti-CD19 CAR construct and viral vector that is being used in the NCI trial. The Company a license with the NIH for intellectual property relating to a TCR-based T cell therapy targeting the antigen SSX2 for the treatment of head and neck cancer, hepatocellular carcinoma, melanoma, prostate cancer and sarcoma, and a co-exclusive license to this intellectual property for the treatment of certain additional cancer types.

Advisors' Opinion:
  • [By Johanna Bennett]

Among the sector's best performers are Integrys Energy (TEG), Edison International (EIX), Entergy (ETR), and Pepco Holdings (POM).

Investors' attraction to utility stocks stems in part to their above-market payouts. The Utilities Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLU) has climbed roughly 25% this year, not including its 3.24% dividend.

  • [By Jayson Derrick]

Exelon (NYSE: EXC) has agreed to acquire the retail electricity division of Integrys Energy (NYSE: TEG) for $60 million. Shares of Exelon lost 1.46 percent, closing at $31.01 while shares of Integrys Energy lost 2.16 percent, closing at $67.54.

Parti! cipation was still robust, thanks to a highly engaged group of readers.

Utility stocks set the pace for the broader market over the first six months of 2014, as fears of rising interest rates abated and companies produced solid first-quarter financial and operating numbers.

Second-quarter reporting season will get underway later in July, with most management teams posting results in early August.

There's also been significant mergers-and-acquisitions rumor and activity, notably surrounding the telecom space. And Wisconsin Energy Corp (NYSE: WEC) last week announced a deal to buy UF Portfolio Holding Integrys Energy Group Inc (NYSE: TEG) for $9.1 billion in cash, stock and assumed debt.

Canadian stocks are back to their winning ways thus far in 2014, with the S&P/TSX Composite Index posting a 12.5 percent total return in US dollar terms from Dec. 31, 2013, through June 30, 2014. The S&P 500 Index is up 7.1 percent, the MSCI Wor ld Index 6.6 percent.

The loonie, meanwhile, was strong in June, bouncing back to near USD0.94 and having an essentially neutral impact for US-based investors' returns for the first six months of the year.

The Australia dollar pushed out to an eight-month high earlier this week, as Chinese PMI data showed some stabilization in the economy for that key trading partner. Although iron ore prices remain depressed, several LNG projects coming on line in coming months should give a boost to Australian exports.

Aussie strength has had a clear positive impact for US-based investors who are long Australian stocks. The S&P/ASX 200 Index trailed the S&P 500 and the MSCI World Index with a 3 percent return in local terms. Accounting for the impact of a stronger aussie on US investors' holdings, the S&P/ASX was up 8.8 percent from Dec. 31, 2013, through June 30, 2014.

10 Best Income Stocks For 2016

10 Best Income Stocks For 2016: Chimerix Inc (CMRX)

Chimerix, Inc., incorporated on April, 07, 2000, is a biopharmaceutical company committed to the discovery, development and commercialization of novel, oral antiviral therapeutics that are designed to transform patient care in areas of high unmet medical need. Its lipid technology has given rise to two clinical-stage compounds, CMX001 and CMX157, which have demonstrated the potential for enhanced antiviral activity and safety in convenient, orally administered dosing regimens.

CMX001 is an orally administered drug that utilizes its lipid technology to deliver intracellular concentrations of a potent antiviral compound, cidofovir-diphosphate (CDV-PP). Following oral dosing, CMX001 is absorbed through the gut, remains intact in the plasma, and is readily taken up by and delivered into cells. Once inside cells, CMX001 is converted into CDV-PP, which acts as an alternative substrate in a replicating virus. CMX001 is similar to the drug cidofovir in that both drug s are converted into CDV-PP once inside cells. Although cidofovir is approved for administration in an intravenous formulation, Vistide, it requires a plasma concentration to deliver a therapeutic level of cidofovir into cells and its use is limited due to the risk of kidney damage.

CMX157, Its second clinical stage compound, is an oral nucleotide compound in Phase 1 development for the treatment of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection. In July 2012, the Company granted Merck an exclusive worldwide license to develop and commercialize CMX157 for all human uses. Merck is responsible for all development and marketing activities for CMX157 on a worldwide basis.

Im ranking the companies by years of positive earnings (special items which explain H&R Blocks losses are excluded). If a company earns money for several decades this group has tended to be profitable for over 30 years and it retains that money, it will end up with a big market cap.

Advisors' Opinion:
  • [By Jonas Elmerraji]

It's been a solid year for Thompson Reuters (TRI); since the calendar flipped over to January, this $30 billion financial media firm has rallied more than 22%. But don't worry if you've missed out on the move -- TRI looks well-positioned for higher levels thanks to the pattern that's been setting up in shares.

Thompson Reuters is currently forming an ascending triangle pattern, a bullish setup that's formed by horizontal resistance above shares at the $35.50 level and uptrending support to the downside. Basically, as TRI bounces in between those two technically-important price levels, it's getting squeezed closer and closer to a confirmed breakout above that $35.50 price level. When the breakout happens, it's time to be a buyer.

TRI closed above the $35.50 level in yesterday's session, but it's a little early to call it a breakout just yet. If shares can hold above that breakout level all through today's session, then the buy signal is worth heeding.

  • [By Ben Levisohn]

We see several potential sources of continued activity as: (i) Schlumberger (SLB) may look to recapture #1 spot in revenues if Halliburton/Baker Hughes do merge; (ii) Halliburton/Baker Hughes may look to plug their seismic service gap (seismic has been the worst-performing industry sub-segment this year); (iii) Halliburton/Baker Hughes may be forced to divest US assets in order to pass antitrust review. Other potential buyers could include oilfield pure-plays, which may be looking to shift exposure away from offshore rigs and more towards completion/production technologies, or large diversified industrials seeking to capitalize on their strong relative share price performance vs. the energy industry.

  • [By Johanna Bennett]

Earlier this week, analysts at Credit Suisse reduced earnings estimates for Halliburton, Baker Hughes, Schlumberger (SLB) and Weatherford International (WFT).

Best Cheapest Stocks To Watch For 2015

Morgan Stanley’sKimberly Greenberger andDuo Liexplain why they declaredMacy’s(M) a Best Idea:

Getty Images

Consistent execution, clear EPS growth algorithm, sector-leading FCF yield and shareholder returns deserve a higher FY2 P/E multiple than 12x…

On a PEG ratio basis, Macy’s is the cheapest stock in our Softlines/Department Store coverage universe, other than Michael Kors(KORS). We think M consistent execution, compelling strategies and strong management deserves a higher multiple. Raising our base case P/E multiple 1 turn and our FY15 EPSe 10c to $5.10, 5c above consensus. Our new $66 PT is 13x our FY15 EPSe.

Not only that, but Macy’s is also kicking butt in online too.

Macy’s also has the largest online sales in our coverage universe. Over the last 5 years, Macy’s has spent $1.8B in IT/eComm initiatives, more than any other company we cover. Ship-from-store allows Macy’s to allocate fashion and brands to smaller volume stores without adding markdown risk. While in-store pickup and return reduce shipping cost and drive incremental traffic. These are just two of many examples of Macy’s sector-leading omni channel capabilities. We think these initiatives will be difficult for competitors to replicate, given the financial resources and talent required.

Top 5 Up And Coming Stocks To Own For 2016: Clovis Oncology Inc (CLVS)

Clovis Oncology, Inc. (Clovis) incorporated on April 20, 2009, is a Development-stage Company. The Company is a Biopharmaceutical Company. The Company focuses on acquiring, developing and commercializing anti-cancer agents in the United States, Europe and additional international markets. The Company also focuses on the treatment of specific subsets of cancer populations. During the year ended December 31, 2010, the Company was in the process of developing three product candidates for which it holds global marketing rights: CO-101, a lipid-conjugated form of the anti-cancer drug gemcitabine; CO-1686, an oral epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) mutant-selective inhibitor and CO-338, a poly ADP (Adenosine Diphosphate)-ribose polymerase (PARP) inhibitor. Effective November 19, 2013, Clovis Oncology Inc acquired the entire share capital of Ethical Oncology Science SpA.

CO-101 - a Lipid-Conjugated Form of the Anti-Cancer Drug Gemcitabine

CO-101 is designed to treat patients with pancreatic cancer whose tumors express low amounts of a membrane transporter protein on the surface of the cancer cell known as hENT1 and are thus expected to be resistant to standard gemcitabine-based therapy. Based on the published results of multiple studies assessing the correlation of hENT1 expression to survival outcomes in pancreatic cancer patients treated with gemcitabine, the Company estimates that approximately 40% to 50% of pancreatic patients express low levels of hENT1, and thus derive little or no benefit from gemcitabine therapy. CO-101 is in an international, randomized and controlled 360-patient study for the first-line treatment of metastatic pancreatic cancer. This open-label study compares CO-101 to gemcitabine as a first-line therapy in patients with metastatic pancreatic cancer. Clovis is partnered with Ventana Medical Systems for the development and commercialization of a companion diagnostic for the assessment of hENT1 levels.

CO-1686-an Oral EGFR Mutant-Selective ! Inhibitor

CO-1686 is an orally available, small molecule covalent inhibitor of the cancer-causing mutant forms of EGFR for the treatment of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). CO-1686 targets both the initial activating EGFR mutations as well as the primary resistance mutation, T790M, it treats both first- and second-line NSCLC patients with EGFR mutations. Such initiating activating mutations occur in approximately 10% to 15% of NSCLC cases in Caucasian patients and approximately 30% to 35% of NSCLC cases in East Asian patients. Following treatment with approved NSCLC therapies, Tarceva (erlotinib) or Iressa (gefitinib), both known as tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs), approximately half of these patients develop the T790M mutation.

The Company focuses on the development of CO-1686 as both a second-line therapy for EGFR-mutated NSCLC patients who become resistant to TKIs due to the emergence of the T790M secondary mutation and as a first-line treatment for EGFR-mutated NSCLC. Clovis is partnered with Roche Molecular Systems for the development and commercialization of a companion diagnostic for identification of EGFR mutations.

CO-338-a PARP Inhibitor

CO-338 is a small molecule PARP inhibitor that the Company focuses to develop as both monotherapy and in combination with chemotherapeutic agents for the treatment of selected cancer patients. CO-338 is in a Phase I clinical trial to determine the maximum tolerated dose of oral CO-338 that can be combined with intravenous, or IV, platinum chemotherapy in the treatment of solid tumors. This program is supplemented by two ongoing investigator-initiated trials, using the IV formulation of CO-338: a Phase I/II study in germ-line BRCA mutant breast and ovarian cancer and a Phase II study in the adjuvant treatment of germ-line BRCA mutant and triple-negative breast cancer. The Company also focuses on initiating a Phase I monotherapy study of the oral formulation, to determine an appropriate dose and schedule.!

The Company competes with Eli Lilly, Teva Pharmaceutical Industries, APP Pharmaceuticals, AB Science SA, Amgen Inc., Astellas Pharma, BioSante Pharmaceuticals, Inc., Celgene Corporation, Immunomedics, Inc., Lorus Therapeutics, Threshold Pharmaceuticals, Inc., Boehringer Ingelheim, Pfizer, Sanofi-Aventis, Astra Zeneca, Abbott, Merck, Eisai, Cephalon and Biomarin.

Absent Higher Rates, Comerica Has Probably Gone Far Enough

Top 10 Low Price Stocks To Own For 2016

Comerica (NYSE:CMA) is a curious bank in multiple respects. Although it has a sizable commercial loan book, the net interest margin isn't all that impressive. On the other hand, this looks like one of the most asset-sensitive of the larger banks, and income could accelerate relatively quickly if rates head meaningfully higher. All things considered, while I think Comerica's market position in Texas and California is worth more than average, I think the shares don't offer all that much promise unless you have a firm belief that the company can generate significantly better long-term returns on equity than the sell-side presently expects.

Another Familiar Pattern In Second Quarter Earnings
Add Comerica to the list of banks reporting okay net interest income and beating quarterly estimates on the basis of fee income and lower credit costs. Commerce Bancshares (Nasdaq:CBSH) actually reported the opposite, but other banks like Bank of the Ozarks (Nasdaq:OZRK), Wells Fargo (NYSE:WFC) and Citigroup (NYSE:C) have been following this basic pattern for the second quarter.

SEE: Citigroup Continues The Theme Of Decent Big Bank Earnings

Operating revenue declined 2% from the year-ago level, but rose about 1% sequentially. Net interest income declined slightly on a sequential basis as the net interest margin ticked lower (down 5bp) on lower purchase accretion. Again, that slim sequential decline was consistent with Wells Fargo and Citigroup's experiences. Fee income rose 5% sequentially and expenses were flat, leading to a 4% sequential improvement in adjusted pre-provision earnings.

Growth Is Still Lacking
Comerica saw just 1% sequential loan growth, better than Wells Fargo and Citigroup, but weaker than Commerce (which also focuses on commercial lending and is looking to grow its loan book in Texas). Commercial lending was up about 2% over all, though commercial real estate lending was softer. Deposits declined 2% (on an end-of-period basis), marking the second straight sequential decline. With Comercia's capital position on the weaker side of "okay" (at least relative to peers), I'm starting to wonder if this softness in deposits will constrain lending capacity at some point or force the company to turn to more expensive wholesale/borrowed sources of funds.

Quality Improving, But Capital May Be A Little Thin
Comerica reported some solid improvements in multiple credit metrics. Non-performing loans declined 38% from the year-ago level and 9% from the first quarter, and the non-performing asset ratio declined again (from 1.78%/1.18% in the prior year/quarter to 1.05%) - far below the level of Citi and Wells, but more than double the rate of Commerce. The net charge-off ratio dropped again (from 0.42%/0.22% to 0.15%) and is very low.

The reserves are interesting, though. While the decline in non-performing loans has lifted the reserve/NPL percentage to almost 137% (from 93% a year ago), the reserves-to-loans ratio of 1.35% looks a little thin to me, particularly as the the Tier 1 common ratio of 10.4% isn't exactly a peer-leading number. That said, Comerica did fine in the Fed's stress test earlier this year and has the all-clear to return capital to shareholders, which is a meaningful detail in a growth-poor banking industry.

SEE: Foreclosure Activity Tumbles In 1H

The Bottom Line
With close to 10% of Comerica's loan book going to car dealers, Comerica should be taking advantage of a pretty healthy car market in the U.S. Likewise, the company's position in the energy sector ought to be a positive assuming the North American energy market has indeed seen its trough. And as I mentioned earlier, this is a lender with above-average leverage to higher rates, as about 80% of the portfolio is variable rate (with about 70% indexed to 30-day LIBOR).

There aren't too many cheap bank stocks left, though, and Comerica isn't one of them. A 10% estimate for long-term ROE suggests a fair value today in the low-to-mid $30s, and you have to go up to about 13% to get a target ahead of today's price. While Comerica's geographically concentrated business may give it an above-average chance of returning to the higher ROEs of yesteryear, I still think that's a pretty bold assumption to use today. On the other hand, the company's return on tangible assets suggests a fair price/tangible book value multiple of around 1.4x, which implies a fair value of about $47. So not unlike Citi, there seems to be a dichotomy in how the market is viewing/valuing the long-term prospects for some of these banks.

While I think Comerica is a relatively good way to play higher rates, I think at least some of that expectation is already built into the stock price today. With mediocre loan growth and still above-average expenses, I'll continue to be on the sidelines with this stock.

Tentative Markets Ahead of Big Data - Ahead of Wall Street

Hot Heal Care Stocks To Own Right Now

Tuesday, July 30, 2013

The overall mood in the market is expected to remain tentative in today's session as well despite the modestly positive open on positive home price numbers. The economic calendar goes into over drive later this week with the Fed announcement and GDP reports tomorrow and the jobs report on Friday. The market is looking for confirmation that the U.S. economic outlook is improving in a backdrop of continued Fed support.

The two interconnected drivers of the improved U.S. growth outlook relative to the rest of the world include the labor and the housing markets. We will get the latest pulse of the labor market from Friday's July non-farm payroll reading, which is expected to show 'headline' gains around recent monthly levels of a little under 200K. Some acceleration from this level will be highly beneficial, but even sustained gains around current levels should help support steady improvement in consumer spending, the mainstay of the U.S. economy.

The housing momentum is for real as well, but housing is a very interest rate sensitive sector and remains vulnerable to further interest rate increases. The roughly 100 basis point jump in long-term interest rates over the last two months may be just a sign of things to come if the Fed's 'Taper' plan gets underway. The strong gains in this morning's Case-Shiller home price index appear to run counter to these interest rate concerns. We should keep in mind, however, that this home-price measure is essentially meaningless in gauging current home-pricing conditions as it's so backward looking – today's report is for the month of May which only partly overlaps with the period when interest rates started moving up.

Tomorrow's Fed announcement isn't expected to shed any fresh light on the 'Taper' issue and the growth picture emerging from the Q2 GDP repor! t in the morning isn't expected to pack many surprises either. The consensus expectation is for GDP growth of about +1% in Q2 after the +1.8% increase in Q1. But the GDP data will be accompanied by revisions to prior data and there could plenty of surprises on that count. It will be interesting to see how the growth numbers for recent quarters and the last few years, particularly since the start of the recovery in 2009, appear with updated numbers.

Accurate data about the recent past is useful, but the markets care far more about forward-looking numbers and the expectation on that front is for the U.S. growth picture to start improving from Q3 onwards. We haven't seen much evidence of such improvement yet, but that's what consensus expectations reflect. Similar expectations underpin earnings estimates for the second half of the year and next year as well, though estimates for Q3 have started coming down under the weight of predominantly negative guidance from management teams on the ongoing Q2 earnings calls.

There is some debate in the market as to whether to label the Q2 earnings season as 'above average', 'average' or 'below average'. Market bulls cite the record total earnings tally in the quarter, the improved beat ratios on the revenue side relative to the prior quarter and the positive earnings growth picture as reasons for calling it an 'above average' reporting season. All of this is true – total Q2 earnings are on track to make a new quarterly record and more companies have beat on the top-line compared to the extremely low level seen in Q1. But the aggregate earnings growth picture is misleading as it primarily reflects gains in one sector – Finance. The growth picture is extremely weak once Finance is excluded from the aggregate numbers. I label the Q2 earnings season as 'below average' because of this weak earnings growth picture and the preponderance of weak guidance.

Including this morning's results from Pfizer (PFE), Merck (MRK), Co! ach (COH)! , Aetna (AET) and others, we now have Q2 results from 302 S&P 500 members or 60.4% of the index's total membership. Total earnings for these 302 companies are up +2.9%, with 65.9% beating earnings expectations. On the revenue side, we have a growth rate of +3.4%, with 49.7% coming ahead of top-line expectations. This compares to total earnings growth rate of +1.8% on +3.7% higher revenues in Q1 for the same group of 302 companies. In terms of beat ratio, 68.2% of these 302 companies had come out with positive surprises in Q1, while only 40.1% had beat on top-lines in Q1. What this tells us that the earnings beat ratio is a bit soft relative to Q1, while favorable top-line surprises are a bit more common.

This aggregate Q2 picture changes materially once the Finance sector is excluded. Total earnings growth turns negative (-3.5% excluding Finance vs. +2.9% including Finance) and even the beat ratios are far less numerous. This lack of breadth in the growth picture is troubling given loftier growth expectations from these sectors in the coming quarters. Given what we have seen outside of Finance in Q2, we will have to bring those expectations down to more realistic levels. That process may have started already, but it still has plenty of room to go.

Top 5 Transportation Companies To Buy For 2015

I'm going to let you in on a little secret. Some of the best investments are those that are a little misunderstood by the market. Because investors need to do a little more work, you can often find a company that isselling at a discount.

That's exactly where LINN Energy (NASDAQ: LINE  ) finds itself these days. The company has been questioned by short sellers who don't understand certain aspects of it's business model. That tends to happen when you're blazing new trails.

As the first LLC/MLP dedicated to the production of oil and gas, instead of its transportation, the company has had a number of investors question its methods. There's nothing wrong with this because it means people are starting to take notice. That's why earlier this month the company had to issue a second response(link opens a PDF) to help its investors better understand its business. Today, I want to drill down a little deeper into why investors are questioning its maintenance capital spending.

Top 10 Building Product Companies For 2016: KNOT Offshore Partners LP (KNOP)

KNOT Offshore Partners LP, incorporated on February 21, 2013, is a limited partnership formed to own, operate and acquire shuttle tankers under long-term charters. Its initial fleet of shuttle tankers contribute to the Company by Knutsen NYK Offshore Tankers AS (KNOT), which is jointly owned by TS Shipping Invest AS, (TSSI), and Nippon Yusen Kaisha (NYK). NYK is a Japanese public company with a fleet of approximately 800 vessels, including bulk carriers, containerships, tankers and specialized vessels. The Company's initial fleet consists of four shuttle tankers, which are vessels designed to transport crude oil and condensates from offshore oil field installations to onshore terminals and refineries. Advisors' Opinion:
  • [By Robert Rapier] There were a half a dozen initial public offerings (IPOs) by master limited partnerships in the first half of the year, and all but one are now in the green while one has nearly doubled in value.

The first MLP IPO of 2013 debuted on Jan. 15. USA Compression Partners (NYSE: USAC), which I mentioned in last week’s issue, provides compression services for the oil and gas industry. Units have advanced 36 percent since the IPO, and at the current price yield 7.3 percent.

The day after the USA Compression Partners IPO, CVR Refining (NYSE: CVRR) made its debut.  CVRR was spun off from CVR Energy (NYSE: CVI), and both companies remain majority-owned by Carl Icahn. CVR Refining’s primary assets are two refineries located in Kansas and Oklahoma with a combined processing capacity of approximately 185,000 barrels per day (bpd). These refineries are strategically located near the major Cushing, Oklahoma shipment and storage hub, with easy access to discounted feedstock from the nearby Permian basin, as well as the Bakken shale and Canadian oil sands.

But refiners have struggled with diminished margins in 2013 because of a much lower Brent-WTI differential. After the recently concluded second quarter, CVRR declared a distribution of $1.35 per unit, bringing its per-unit distributions for the first half of the year to $2.93. At the same time, CVR Refining lowered its annual distribution target to a range of $4.10 to $4.80 per unit. This was lower than the outlook issued in March, when it foresaw annual distributions of $5.50 to $6.50. CVRR units slid on the news, and are presently trading slightly below the $25 IPO price. The lower end of the revised forecast implies distributions of $1.17 per unit in the second half of the year, for a forward annualized yield of 10 percent based on the recent $23.50 unit price.

But this too is starting to shift. If you look at the most-recent IPOs on the New York Stock Exchange, you'll find many corners of the energy industry represented:

Tallgrass Energy Partners-- Natural gas midstream, debuted May 14 KNOT Offshore Partners (NYSE: KNOP  ) -- Shuttle tankers, debuted April 10 SunCoke Energy Partners (NYSE: SXCP  ) -- Coal/coke making, debuted Jan. 18 CVR Refining (NYSE: CVRR  ) -- Mid-continent refining, debuted Jan. 17

There have also been a few MLP-related funds to hit the market this year, including Global X Junior MLP ETFand Neuberger Berman MLP Income Fund.

Kicking off the second quarter right, KNOT Offshore Partners (NYSE: KNOP  ) debuted on April 10. The partnership owns and operates shuttle tankers under customer contracts that last five years or more. Knutsen NYK Offshore Tankers (KNOT) controls the 2% general partner stake and all the incentive distribution rights. Shuttle tankers move crude oil and condensate from offshore oil rigs to onshore terminals and refineries, so it makes sense that KNOT Offshore's customers include BG Group, Statoil, and Transpetro.

Advisors' Opinion:
  • [By Traders Reserve]

For investors who want a piece of this developing trend, Transocean and Seadrill are two of the bigger players in this arena. Other offshore drillers/rig operators are Noble (NE) and Ensco (ESV). Companies that provide services to offshore drillers and benefit from increases in exploration and drilling activity are Gulfmark Offshore (GLF), Hornbeck (HOS), Seacor (CKH) and Tidewater (TDW).

  • [By Seth Jayson]

Margins matter. The more Seacor Holdings (NYSE: CKH  ) keeps of each buck it earns in revenue, the more money it has to invest in growth, fund new strategic plans, or (gasp!) distribute to shareholders. Healthy margins often separate pretenders from the best stocks in the market. That's why we check up on margins at least once a quarter in this series. I'm looking for the absolute numbers, so I can compare them to current and potential competitors, and any trend that may tell me how strong Seacor Holdings's competitive position could be.
